A High End Look For Less!
I saw these shoes while hunting for something else and they stopped me in my tracks. They look super high end with the details but then I saw they were from Coldwater Creek (?!). There are hidden gems there (trust me).
Coldwater Creek flats - $79.95
I'm partial to the top two colors!
Just a quick word about the crazy week we had down here in Georgia. Last Tuesday night and all day Wednesday we had freezing rain and sleet which resulted in an epic ice storm. The rain/sleet started late Tuesday night and continued all day Wednesday. We lost our power Wednesday afternoon and it got chilly in the house pretty quickly. We all ended up piling in bed under piles of blankets, but sleep was tough because all night long all you could hear were the snaps and pops of trees and limbs crashing down. It was a little unnerving.
Scenes from Thursday morning.
We ended up getting a hotel room for Thursday night (sweet, sweet heat) and eventually late Thursday the sun came out and the ice started melting. We couldn't get another room for Friday night, so we headed home to the powerless house around noon on Friday. I had to trash everything in the fridge and freezer, then we went to the movies, etc anything to keep warm and not go nuts. It was tough getting around town because of all the roads being closed due to trees down, etc.
I might have worn this outfit (black yoga pants not pictured) for 24 hours straight - allegedly.
We finally headed home as it was getting dark and hunkered down for yet another night sans heat. But around 9:30 pm the lights, TV and heat all clicked on! I might have cried from joy - maybe ;o) I got my girl tucked into bed and we settled in to watch some TV and things started getting back to "normal". Until about 10:30. We started hearing some rumbling sound and then the house started shaking like crazy, more and more and then it stopped. Did we just have a freaking earthquake? Yes, yes we did, and it was centered around 20 miles from us. It was strong enough to wake my girl up, she didn't know what the heck was going on. The earthquake was sort of like an exclamation point on the end of an insane week. I've been frantically playing catch up ever since. Bear with me, posting will be light this week. But I am keeping up with the Fall 2014 fashion shows, pinning all my favorite looks to my Fall 2014 board. Whew...

Happy Weekend! Spring 2014 NYFW Trends Next Week!
I've been pinning day and night and now that NYFW is basically at an end, my Spring 2014 Pinterest board is up-to-date. I've been sifting through all of the information and coming up with some trends. Good news, it looks like all of the Resort 2014 trends I highlighted earlier, are sticking around (snakeskin, windowpane, color, Birkenstock-like slides, sweatshirts) yay! There are a few emerging trends too. I'll have a roundup of all of those next week, just in time for London Fashion Week!
Oh and in case you missed it Jimmy Kimmel did a great "Lie Witness News" segment interviewing people outside of Lincoln Center, asking them about made up fashion designers. It is hilarious! Enjoy and have a great weekend!

Pinterest, before Pinterest
As much as I'm devoted to Pinterest (and boy am I. I'm currently at over 10,600 pins?!?!), and as much as I love the ability to access inspirational images/directions/recipes anytime, anywhere, I still love ripping inspirational images out of magazines. I find some sort of weird comfort in their physical presence. There's nothing like touching those pages and just taking the images in #oldschool. I've been collecting magazine tears for years (since 1987 to be exact) when I started stashing them away. I ended up with huge stacks of papers in complete disarray. I could never find what I needed and the pages were getting ripped and damaged. So about 15 years ago I decided to go through them, purge, group and organize and create my "Inspiration Notebooks". This post is just a quick walk-through of how I update them and stay on top of the endless stream of paper - it can get overwhelming.
1. I stash all tear sheets into a clear zip top folder, until it's full.
2. When it's full, I pull the stack out and the sorting begins according to the categories of the notebooks I have.
3. I have pre-made file folders with the categories. I file the stacks of images accordingly. If time is tight, I'll stop here until later.
4. Now comes the fun (and time consuming) part, putting the full page images in sheet protectors.
Making sure to trim any down and make sure they "flow" nicely.
5. The remaining will be images that need to be cut out and pasted in separately. In the tear sheet below, I really just wanted the image of the room and nothing else.
6. Flip through the book and find a page where there's enough empty space for it to fit. I just use plain white copy paper to tape it to.
7. Use a little tape on the back to put it on the page.
8. That's it! Now you have more goodies to look at when in need of inspiration (or are away from Pinterest - ha)!
Do you still save magazine tears for inspiration? How do you preserve them for reference?

NYFW Fall 2013 Trends - Color
As I finished looking at the images from NY Fashion week a couple of color trends popped out at me. These aren't new or groundbreaking, but I made note of them because they have been around and will continue to be around. First up, cobalt blue!
Love that this color is sticking around! It's just so happy and sophisticated.
Next up, vivid pinks!
Every pink from pastel to neon, they all are represented.
This by no means are all the color trends, just ones that jumped out at me (and certainly these are ones that you can find now and wear this Spring and Summer with no problem at all). I'll be back with more as London, Milan and Paris wrap up. I'm pinning away every day on my Fall 2013 Pinterest board - check it out for more great picks!

My Spring 2013 Couture Picks
I'm going to mix things up a bit with my picks from each fashion season. Instead of doing a post with my five (or more or less) picks per show, I decided to put all my picks from every show on a Pinterest board created specifically for that season.
Let's start with my Spring 2013 Couture board.
I think this makes more sense because you can see all my faves at one time whenever needed. I'm a visual person and it's nice to be able to scroll through and see any trends (color, cut, pattern) that start to appear. It also plays into my wanting to create a bit more original content for the blog (which is slow going). I would also like to do more runway looks for less for each season too (anyone remember when I used to do the "my take" posts? Yeah, long time ago). I want to get back to that sort of thing. So I'll put together a little graphic like the one above to let you know when I'm finished with my picks and the season's board is "complete". So head over and check it out!
