My Take - Gucci Spring 2013

I love this outfit on Gucci designer Frida Giannini (who was pregnant at the time), I love the printed top with statement necklace grounded by the denim.  In fact I really liked the whole Gucci Spring 2013 collection.

Gucci Spring 2013 - My Five

What a happy, rainbow hued, ruffled collection from Frida Giannini.  I loved it!  I adore the tunic/trouser look that is long and lean, it's timeless.  Great prints, including color infused snake print and a large floral in stunning colorways.  Here are my many picks!

My Five - Gucci Spring 2012

This collection was full of shine and glitz, or it seemed to be.  Gucci bucked the silver trend by showing lots of gold.  The bevy of fun, fringy cocktail dresses at the end was outstanding!  Here are my picks:

I Want This For Fall - Trend #1 Snakeskin

Welcome to to the week long series about trends I feel are important for this fall.  I'm starting a day late, so I'll be hitting you with two trends today - stay tuned for the next post a bit later today.

The first trend I'm going to tackle is snakeskin print.  This trend was apparent in Prada's and Gucci's Fall 2011 collections.  If you didn't catch my imaginary conversation between Miucca Prada and Frida Giannini about said trend then go here.  Obviously that stuff is in stores now and since those collections showed in March of this year the trend has gained steam.  While Prada and Gucci focused on brightly colored snakeskin prints, I think the trend has evolved to a more natural palette.  Meaning, it's more how it appears in nature and therefore it makes it much easier to weave into your existing wardrobe.  I would treat it almost like a leopard print - a great accent that can go with most anything.  It's also like leopard in that it comes and goes in popularity (although with me, leopard is always on trend). 

A great way to incorporate this trend in your wardrobe is with accessories - shoes, bags, jewelry, etc.  That way it's not too overwhelming and doesn't cost an arm and leg.  I've assembled a few options in shoes, bags and jewelry all under $150.  If you keep the bag and shoe options clean and simple then they will stand the test of time and you can wear them now, then store them away when the trend feels tired, then pull them out again in a few seasons when it's hot again (and it will be).  Have fun!

My Five - Gucci Fall 2011

Outstanding collection full of great color and color combinations, and the accessories, don't get me started - beyond gorgeous!  There were a lot of bold and bright python/python prints in this collection (just like at Prada).  I was wondering if Frida Giannini called up Miuccia Prada and had a convo about sourcing them together for a bulk discount?  Can you imagine?  (cue the fantasy music)

FG - Hi Miu, how's it going?  I was just sitting here talking to my BFF James Franco about "General Hospital" and it hit me - the Fall 2011 line should be all about python!  Not just any python, but brightly colored python.  What do you think?
MP - Obviously.
FG - Are you planning on using python for Fall?
MP - Obviously.
FG - We should totally go in together and buy it by the truckload.  I mean it's got to come to Italy anyway, right?
MP - Obviously.
FG - It's on then, I'll have my design staff contact your design staff.  Ciao!
MP - I've got to go buy some art.

My Take: Gucci Resort 2011

I'm so ready for Fall, more so than I've ever been.  It's been so darn hot and humid this summer that most of the time, the little one and I had to find places to go and things to do that involved being in air conditioning.  I'm ready to go outside for more than 10 minutes at a time!  Point being that I'm longing for the lovely changing of leaves and being able to wear layers again.  I decided to tackle a look from Gucci's outstanding 2011 Resort collection (this look was one of "my five" picks way back in June). 

It's a great Fall look, lovely browns and layers (how about that scarf?  adore!).  Just perfect for September's cooler days.  I did two versions inspired by this look, not a direct copies, but using a similar color palette and dash of leopard.  Enjoy!
