True story, when I was in college I worked part time in the insect museum at the North Carolina Department of Agriculture, where I had to tend to the insect specimens in the collection. Once you get past the creepy crawlies of it, you discover there are some beautiful bugs out there! Beetles are some of the prettiest and they are a trend right now. Check out these fun and pretty beetle goodies!

Gap vs. Tory Burch - Get A Jump On Fall!
Loved all the beetle/scarab motifs in Tory Burch's Fall 2013 collection (see my Fall 2013 Pinterest board with all my picks). Imagine how delighted was I when I stumbled upon this lady bug print shirt from the Gap available right now!
What do you think, are you on board with the beetle trend?

My Five - Tory Burch Spring 2013
First of all I'm going to say that I LOVED this collection! The colors, the prints, the embellishments, the accessories - everything. Just loved it. I really dug the yellow/grey/cream looks in the beginning. Nice job! So here's my way more than five picks, enjoy!
Dying over this look - that jacket!
gold and golden yellow
Shorts suit perfection!
It's all about the print mixing here. Little secret - this is exactly the sort of apparel look I gravitate towards when trend spotting for home furnishings. Looks like this make the link from apparel to home furnishings (or any sort of upholstery) really clear.
Swoon with that tunic - dress it up and down!
Cobalt blue isn't going away. Love the tie-dye mixed with the tailored stripes!
Simple yet polished
The trend takeaways from this collection:
1. Yellow and grey/beige
2. Longer statement necklaces
3. Tasseled loafers
4. Gold metallic sticking around
5. Cobalt blue is sticking around
What do you think? Any standouts for you?

Happy Weekend!
Well, I finished up dropping off, working at and shopping for my girl's Fall wardrobe at the local kid's consignment sale and I must say I scored some amazing stuff for her and had loads of fun helping organize the clothes on the sales floor. For some reason that's like total zen for me. I've been really scattered this week and haven't had the chance to look at all the NYFW shows, but let me tell you, the ones I've looked at have been really strong. Like, get excited! strong. I'll start sharing my picks next week, but in the meantime here are some looks that I love!
First up Oscar de la Renta's OUTSTANDING show - every look was perfection:
Chado Ralph Rucci - swoon
Tory Burch - grey and yellow pattern mixing goodness!
J.Crew - this dress/tunic is to die for!
Exciting right? I've got so many shows to still look through, but so far so good! Hope you have a wonderful weekend and see you Monday!

My Five - Tory Burch Fall 2012
This collection reminded me of old-school Prada. Maybe it was the color palette or the embellished touches, can't put my finger on it, but it just did. I say this not in a bad way at all. There were lots of rich, darker colors and lovely patterns. Certainly take note of the navy and green color pairing (seen on Tory herself in the last picture). Here are my picks:

Outfit Post (and why I've been M.I.A. since Friday)
I'm linking up with The Pleated Poppy today for WIWW (what I wore Wednesday) for this outfit post, it's so much fun, check it out! Anyway, here is my one measly, sad little outfit post - my first post since Friday. Why only one outfit today and no posts since Friday? Well, it's a tale of woe that started Saturday morning when the stomach bug that my girl had the weekend before (you know, the one I thought I had outsmarted by not catching) reared it's ugly head and sucker punched me. And I mean hit me hard and fast and knocked me out for 24 hours. It was not a pretty time my friends, not a pretty time at all. Yesterday I ate three meals for the first time since Friday. And I'm going to be honest, the tummy is still not quite right. But enough of that gag-worthy talk. Here is the outfit I threw on yesterday morning before rushing out to a Dr's appt for my girl - one that we never made it to. Why? I'll tell you after the photos:
Here's a better look at the print on the tunic:
We went out to my car to go to the appointment and well, the darn car wouldn't start. It just sat there mocking me while I turned the key. Grrr. And I couldn't reach my husband since he was at the Master's practice rounds (no phones, etc are allowed in Augusta National because it could jeapordize national security or world peace or something like that) so we just cancelled and now have to deal with my car - fun.
One perk to being stuck at home for a day, I got to play catch up (though I still have much more catching up to do from the "lost weekend"). That is all for now, I was hoping to start up a new "uniform dressing" this week, but alas that will have to wait until next. It will be a good one though, you will want to come back and check it out!
Still looking a bit sickly, I'm sorry to say.
Tunic - Tory Burch
Tank (underneath) - Target
Pants - J.Crew
Shoes (you can't see) - Payless

My Five - Tory Burch Fall 2011
Nice collection, some beautiful prints and lovely flowy fabrics. I'm not on board with large scale plaid pants and coats though, a little too Herb Tarlek for me (that's right, how many times does a style blogger reference "WKRP in Cincinnati"? Not many, but they should - anyone else remember the Thanksgiving turkey drop episode? No? Well, go and watch it. It's as classic as the "Mary Tyler Moore" "a little song, a little dance, a little seltzer down your pants" - the clown funeral - episode. Go forth and watch the classic sitcoms of long ago - you can thank me later.) Maybe it's appropriate that I'm recalling classic 70's sitcoms, the 70's seems to be of great inspiration in fashion right now. "If you, if you ever wonder. Wonder, whatever became of me. I'm living on the air in Cincinnati. Cincinnati, WKRP..." Don't mind me, just over here in my own little world!

4 of 30 - Denim, Leopard and Flowers
Finally! I cut the tags of this Tucker for Target blouse and wore it - I mean it only took months. Sheesh. What is my problem? I absolutely love it, it's comfortable and easy to wear. I'm not one for a ton of prints, especially floral prints. I think it comes from years designing residential fabrics, you start looking at prints and see them on sofas and chairs and not on clothes. Must be why I wore so many neutrals early in my career ;o) Anyhoo, I decided to mix it up with my leopard flats and jeans. Can't go wrong with either of those. In fact, you could probably take any of my tops in the challenge and pair them with the jeans and leopard flats and do just fine. Which means you will be seeing them again - ha!
