Resort 2014 Trends - Color

This week I'm going to cover the trends from the Resort 2014 collections (check out my Resort 2014 Pinterest board).  Why did I sort of skip over Fall? Honestly, resort is more wearable, it covers warm and cool weather items and (my favorite reason) it gives a good idea about what next Spring will hold - meaning you can buy stuff on sale now that will be on trend for next Spring/Summer!  Today we are starting with colors.  First up, blue.  Seriously, blue has been dominating the collections for the past few seasons.  It's sticking around!

Next up, green.  Not really one specific shade of green (please Pantone stop trying to make Emerald Green happen - that was a bad call).  It's not a dominating color across all collections, but it was one that caught my attention.

And last up is one of those colors that isn't obvious, but when it shows up it makes a statement. A splash of neon green/yellow.  Whether it be an accent color in a print or an accessory, it adds interest.

NYFW Fall 2013 Trends - Color

As I finished looking at the images from NY Fashion week a couple of color trends popped out at me.  These aren't new or groundbreaking, but I made note of them because they have been around and will continue to be around.  First up, cobalt blue!

 

Love that this color is sticking around! It's just so happy and sophisticated.

 

Next up, vivid pinks!

 

Every pink from pastel to neon, they all are represented.

 

This by no means are all the color trends, just ones that jumped out at me (and certainly these are ones that you can find now and wear this Spring and Summer with no problem at all).  I'll be back with more as London, Milan and Paris wrap up.  I'm pinning away every day on my Fall 2013 Pinterest board - check it out for more great picks!

Capture The Color!

I was so excited when Melinda over at C'est ma vie! nominated me to participate in Travel Supermarket's Capture the Color contest.  The challenge is to post five photos, each featuring one of the following colors: blue, green, yellow, white, red.  Each photo should include a caption featuring sensory memories.  Unfortunately, I'm a little late with my post (shocker) and the contest is over now, but I still wanted to share my pictures.  Color is one of my passions, I love studying it, how colors interact and what feelings certain colors can bring.  Here are my pictures!

 

Green!  This is a Ginkgo tree at Augusta State University.  We were out for a family walk on a gorgeous Sunday afternoon.  The campus was quiet and my girl was having a great time!

Yellow!  (and orange) This is one of my girl's infamous self portraits via the iPad or iPod Touch.  She loves doing these and they are always hilarious - basically I find these when I pick up the device later and find all these pictures of her that she's snapped.  I love how her red hair really does look like fire in this shot.

Red!  This is from the Ralph Rucci exhibit I visited  over the Summer.  I love this dress, it's so structured and not the least bit stuffy or stiff.  The gallery was so quiet and peaceful.

White!  This is the stunning view from my best friend's back deck in the mountains of NC.  I love how the clouds were  just rolling across the sky.  Fluffy and flat all at the same time!

 

 

Blue!  Though it looks more blue/green here.  This was the pool at the condo we were staying at on our vacation to Hilton Head, SC.  It was so hot the afternoon I took this picture.

My Five - Michael Kors Resort 2013

Oh wow, this was a tight, glamorous collection.  Love the color story of gold, black, white, cobalt blue with a bit of green and red as well.  Just perfect in every way.   I love how he can get the vibe across without being so insanely repetitive.  So chic.  Here are my (more than 5 picks).

How much do you love the gold and cobalt blue together?  I adore it.

My Five - Oscar de la Renta Resort 2013

Beautiful collection (as usual) from Mr. de la Renta.  The beauty and wearability of his collections are so consistent it's kind of scary.  How does he do it?  Well, I hope he never stops because even though I can't afford a stitch of it, his collections are fantastic for inspiration.  Take note of the colors (bright blue, kelly green, yellow-green, purple, orange-red, white gold, etc) and the use of gingham in a large scale (on the bias - which is how I prefer it) as well as manipulating it to look folded, undone and skewed.  We all might want to invest in a sparkly baseball tee pairing it with a skirt :o)  Fun stuff!  Here are my (slightly more than 5) picks, enjoy!

My Five - Chanel Couture Spring 2012

This collection was all about blue, black and boatnecks set in a futuristic airplane.  And Karl says air is blue so there's the connection.  I don't really know if air is blue per se, but hey, SpongeBob's pants aren't technically square so I won't split hairs.  Whatever.  You know some girl I went to college with won a fabric design competition for a Russian airline.  So her fabric is in some Russian airplanes.  Random thought that popped into my head.  Just call this post "Jenny's Potpourri".  Here are my picks:

My Take - Malin Akerman

I l-o-v-e this outfit, it's the blue pants that make it for me. 

Break it down piece by piece and it's a simple look, nothing groundbreaking, but those just-the-right-color blue pants push it to the next level.  Here's my take, enjoy!

My Five - Michael Kors Pre-Fall 2011

Very clean lines with this collection.  Solids, stripes, a dash of color blocking and one print in either black, red, white or that cobalt blue that will not go away!  I'm glad it's not going away, it's a very clean, happy color that makes you feel good (and is easy to wear).  Here are my five picks, enjoy!

Happy Weekend and My Five - Reem Acra Pre-Fall 2011

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!  I'll be spending mine trying to sort out the last of the Christmas present purchases/plans, going to class and doing some homework.  We've got a major after-Christmas "happening" to plan for too, more on that after the new year.  I'm also working on my 2011 goals and revisiting the 2010 goals, which I will also share in a post soon. 

Now on to Reem Acra's collection chock full of drop-dead gorgeous evening wear!  I absolutely couldn't keep it to five picks (as usual).  I'm pretty sure we will see one of these numbers on the red carpet in the coming awards season.  Which is your favorite (mine is the neutral to dark brown ombre effect ruffle gown - throw a bright green, orange or blue shoe with it and I die) ?  Enjoy (note that blue again)!
