My Take - Givenchy Shark Tooth Necklace

I really have gone on and on about the darn Givenchy Shark Tooth necklaces, even after a year I'm still smitten.  But hey dropping $1K or even $500 on one of them is completely out of the question.  So time to find some budget friendly alternatives...
1. Karmaloop necklace - $10.95
4.  Hardcouture necklace - $18.95

My Five - Givenchy Fall 2012 Couture

If Karl Lagerfeld ever needs to learn how to edit a collection, just boil a collection down to the nitty gritty (and he might want to try that*), then he just needs to give Riccardo Tisci a call.  Seriously, his collections might lack in number of looks, but they certainly never lack in craftsmanship and detail.  Breathtakingly so.  These are certainly not work-a-day clothes, nor are they going to appeal to most.  But that's sort of the point of Haute Couture, no?  Couture is essentially custom built clothing that is assembled by hand with extraordinary attention to detail.  And what details.  Check out my picks below:

*and yes, I understand that Chanel is quite a bit larger of a company and they need to appeal to many more markets/stores than Givenchy, so they naturally need to provide more product options.  However, I still think KL's collections (especially for Chanel) tend to ramble.  Maybe just tighten up the runway looks.  Throwing spitballs people...

Love This! - Givenchy Shark Tooth Necklace

Ever since I first laid eyes on this necklace from Givenchy's Spring 2012 collection, I've been obsessed.  It's comically large, yet totally cool.  Unfortunately it's $960 (eek).  What do you think?  Would you wear it?

My Five - Givenchy Couture Spring 2012

Here's a group shot of the compact Givenchy Couture collection (gigantic nose rings and all). Anyone up for a glamorous game of basketball?

Even if it's not your style, you have to admit that these are impeccably crafted.  Tisci and his team are so darn creative.  In fact you have already seen one of these dresses on the red carpet on Zoe Saldana at the SAG awards last Sunday.  She looked amazing, loved this look so much!

Spring 2011 Couture Week Round-up

Well, it's the end of my Couture Week coverage.  I adore the Couture, I love the fantasy, the craftsmanship and the pure showmanship of it all.  Here are some picks from some of the other collections.  Enjoy!

Happy Weekend, Announcements and Various Couture Fall 2010

First of all I hope you all have a great weekend.  I've made my week a little miserable by spending too much energy obsessing thinking about our "still-on-the-market-after-17- months" house.  It's making me nuts people, I'm ready to feel settled.  I must build a bridge and get over it.

As for August and the blog, I'm going to cut down to one post a day for the month.  I'm giving myself a little break from two posts a day so I can enjoy the end of Summer (plus August is a little slow in Fashion-land, sort of the calm before the September fashion show storms).  I'm also going to try out a new series next Wednesday called "Uniform Dressing".  Basically it's going to address the issue of having a sort of "uniform" that you may go to time and time again.  I'm so guilty of this, you don't even know.  My husband makes fun of me - pants and t-shirt, pants and t-shirt.  And it's gotten out of hand since becoming a Mom.  So it's for me and you - LOL!  It's not about abandoning the "uniform", but more about embracing it.  Come back on Wednesday and see what I mean.   I'm also working on a new mission statement since I've moved away from the blog's original concept, more on that in a couple of weeks.

Okay, back to it.  To finish up my week-long Fall 2010 Couture roundup, I'm going to cover a couple of additional shows that I just liked a few looks from.  First up, the super detailed Givenchy:

No one will look past you wearing one of these showstoppers!

And finally Valentino, where everything was super-duper short and sassy - nice!

Givenchy - Couture Spring 2010

This collection had a 70's vibe, dark eyes and red lips (almost sinister) makeup.  The gowns were beautiful, the color palette stuck with black and white with some neutrals, cobalt and navy blues, emerald green and purple.  Here are my picks (that last dress - bottom right - is AMAZING):

Givenchy Pre-Fall 2010

Kind of surprised how much I liked from this collection.  Clean lines, lots of black and white with some neutrals and a lovely shade of green for some shoes that I found interesting.  And lots of shorts!  Here are my faves.

Givenchy Spring 2010

Very graphic yet drapey, sharply tailored yet flowy, again mostly neutral.  Love the prints!  Could do without the "cone-head" hats shown, not sure who those would flatter.  Here are my picks from Spring 2010:
