My Five - Prada Spring 2013

Not gonna lie, this collection was pretty awesome in my opinion.  Again, Miuccia loves a theme and this time it's a little Japanese mixed with a little late '60's flower power.  Lots of black and white, punched up with dashes of red and green.  And the shoes, well, you will be seeing them in every magazine I'm sure.  They are not the most practical, but they do mesmerize.  Love it or hate it, you will see a trickle down in trends.  Here are my picks:

Dior Resort 2013 Inspired by Prada Spring 2001? (update)

*just received an Anonymous comment below that the Dior print is from Dior 50's Couture dress (I wish I could find a picture for confirmation). So maybe Prada was influenced by Dior or maybe it was just a coincidence?  The saga continues...

Just a follow up to my picks from Christian Dior's Resort 2013 collection from earlier today, I noticed that the one print in the collection reminded me A LOT of the print from Prada's Spring 2001 collection.  And while yes, I do have an almost encyclopedic knowledge of Prada collections (and SpongeBob cartoons) this print was pretty much in every ad for the brand and editorial - so it's not obscure.  Dior's isn't an exact copy by any means (there's more white space) but jeez it's awfully close.  This isn't lawsuit material or anything and Lord knows as a fabric designer I see designs that are "cousins of" like this constantly, designs that have different artwork, yet give off the same feel/effect.  What do you think?  Is it too close?  Does it even matter since it's been over a decade since Prada's print debuted?

My Five - Tory Burch Fall 2012

This collection reminded me of old-school Prada.  Maybe it was the color palette or the embellished touches, can't put my finger on it, but it just did.  I say this not in a bad way at all.  There were lots of rich, darker colors and lovely patterns.  Certainly take note of the navy and green color pairing (seen on Tory herself in the last picture).  Here are my picks:

My Five - Prada Fall 2012

Coming off of last Spring's hot rod themed collection this one was a bit of a let down.  But hey, every collection can't be as awesome as that one, right?  I mean who doesn't want a pair of those flame shoes?  This collection isn't bad by any means, but it was a bit repetitive (with the large gems bedazzling the clothes and the mixing of super graphic prints).  Prada is a designer whose clothes you either love or hate.  I'm firmly in the "love" category, but I realize that sometimes the parts are more appealing than the whole.  This is certainly the case with this collection. 

Before I share my picks, I would like to introduce what certainly may be one of "the shoes" of Fall 2012.  I predict you will see this in a Fall Vogue editorial:

My Five - Miu Miu Spring 2012

A collection with lots of prints and lots of lace.  Some of it felt a bit like big sis Prada's Spring Collection (mostly the accessories).  It's not my favorite Miu Miu collection I've ever seen, but here are some highlights.

That's what she should say about this collection.  As cheesy the 50's car theme may seem on the surface, you gotta tip your hat to her complete commitment to it and the details that went into it (hello shoes with tail lights!).  I'm not gonna lie, I adore the car print and the shoes.  I'm so drinking the Prada Kool-Aid...
