My Take: Ralph Lauren Spring 2010

Well, first let me say I'm going to skip an installment of "Uniform Dressing" this week and start it next week.  You see there are five Wednesdays in September and five installments of a uniform may just drive people (me) to drink.  My 2 year old has her first dental appointment in November so I need to save all my drinking time to prepare for that event. And since we are knee deep in the "Week of Chambray", I figured I would tackle one of RL's Spring 2010 looks I featured in Monday's post.

I think I read somewhere along the line that the "jeans" in this look are heavily beaded and the price is in the 4 digits.  Uhhhh, okay, whatever floats your boat Ralph.  They probably only made the one pair.  Anyway, I used this look as an inspiration point for three looks (and yeah, I threw in some leopard print shoes.  I had to).

Top and bottom-wise this is fairly true to the runway look.  Some may object to the chambray denim combo, I'm on the fence about it, but the blazer does help break it up.

Let the "Week of Chambray" begin!

In Friday's post I declared that this week shall be the "Week of Chambray" and I meant it.  Now I sound all mean and crazed, but seriously chambray is everywhere right now.  Dressed up or dressed down it's certainly a trend worth trying (and a trend that comes and goes, because I remember rocking some serious chambray in the 80's, yo!).  A chambray shirt is easy to work into your existing wardrobe and I'll be showing some examples as the week continues.

First, lets look at some inspiration from (who else?) Ralph Lauren's Spring 2010 runway.  This was a strong runway show for him, very "Ralph" with the luxurious take on what you would usually consider working clothes.  Not, 9-5 working, but actual "go outside and get your hands dirty" working clothes.  Some examples:

I adore that beaded tunic/dress.  Anyway, you can see what I'm talking about - fancy!  Here is a sampling of  chambray (and lightweight denim) shirts I ran across, you'll be seeing a couple of these later this week in various looks.  Enjoy!

My Take: Donna Karan Spring 2010

I just adored this collection, the lovely color palette is what totally sold it (here) - I wanted to do a "my take" inspired by one of the looks.

I'm loving the grey and peach, so I took that combination and made it more Fall friendly.  Of course I had to throw in a leopard print shoe (you know me, I love a leopard print shoe) and a fab statement necklace.

My Take: Bottega Veneta Spring 2010

Another trip down memory lane for this "my take".  Bottega Veneta's Spring 2010 collection (my post here), really was stunning, with tons of white (and yes, yellow shows up quite frequently as an accent color - here I go again). 

I picked this look because it's not too dressed up and the white tunic can be a great foundation for other looks by switching accessories or throwing it on over leggings into Fall.  Again, giving a heel or flat option with the shoe.

My Take: Isaac Mizrahi Spring 2010

Back to the archives again, I love revisiting a season and seeing what still works and seems fresh!  I must say that this isn't a groundbreaking look, but it's one that's timeless and honestly Isaac's Spring 2010 collection was fabulous (my post here).  Away we go:

My Take: Milly Spring 2010

I'm going to reach into the archives with this one, it's from Milly's Spring 2010 collection (my post here). 

The color combination is what makes the look for me, there are quite a few colors happening, but they aren't jarring.  Instead they are the same tone and a bit greyed out.  It's a very comfortable color palette and honestly it would be one I would have pulled for fabric inspiration (in my previous work). 

Anyway, I did two variations on the look.  First up, the Spring/Summer look with shorts and a cardi for cool nights (which I'm having a hard time remembering seeing that last night at 9:30pm it was 88 degrees here - LOL!):

The next is more of a Fall version (yep, we are going there.  It is August after all, it's right around the corner).  And I just had to toss in a leopard shoe, which is so perfect with a look like this.

Favorite Post - Alexander McQueen Spring 2010 - revisited

I’m currently on a family vacation - it’s actually more of a “staycation” with a few little jaunts here and there. My heart just broke when Lee Alexander McQueen passed away earlier this year, I had followed his career from the beginning.  A true artist, his work will always hold a special place in my heart.  Spring 2010 blew me away and I had to do a special post on the accessories and detail shots, amazing.  Originally posted 10/18/09

I decided to take another look at Alexander McQueen's Spring collection (see my previous post here), this time focusing more on the details and boy, I'm glad I did.  The accessories and embellishments are quite cool (in an uncomfortable, almost disturbing way).  Honestly, when I first looked at the collection, I didn't even notice that some of the girls were carrying clutches, when in fact they were.  I'll take any one of those said clutches, just beautiful.  And how they walked in those shoes, I will never know.  Here are some highlights in my eyes (there are a lot):
