Boden Chambray Tunic

Last week one of my BFF's emailed me with a styling question about this Boden Tunic:
Boden at ShopStyle
Super cute, right?  She loved it, but was at a loss about how to style it.  She wondered if I had some suggestions and of course I jumped all over it.  I was in "Week of Chambray" mode!  I love this tunic because it's a button down (not just halfway down like some other tunics), so this means you can wear it buttoned or unbuttoned (almost like a jacket).  Yay!  Now my BFF is a consultant who works from her home in New York, she doesn't need the tunic to work in an office-type environment.  She walks a lot and like me, loves a comfy shoe, so I opted for a Cole Haan with Nike Air.  I lived in Cole Haan's with Air when I worked in NYC, they are stylish, comfy and so worth the extra coin.  So here are my styling suggestions:
Nothing groundbreaking here, just a comfy, casual look with a touch of sparkle from the necklace.

You could wear it buttoned or unbuttoned (or somewhere in between) with this look and you can toss in a scarf for chilly days.  Love!

Let the "Week of Chambray" begin!

In Friday's post I declared that this week shall be the "Week of Chambray" and I meant it.  Now I sound all mean and crazed, but seriously chambray is everywhere right now.  Dressed up or dressed down it's certainly a trend worth trying (and a trend that comes and goes, because I remember rocking some serious chambray in the 80's, yo!).  A chambray shirt is easy to work into your existing wardrobe and I'll be showing some examples as the week continues.

First, lets look at some inspiration from (who else?) Ralph Lauren's Spring 2010 runway.  This was a strong runway show for him, very "Ralph" with the luxurious take on what you would usually consider working clothes.  Not, 9-5 working, but actual "go outside and get your hands dirty" working clothes.  Some examples:
I adore that beaded tunic/dress.  Anyway, you can see what I'm talking about - fancy!  Here is a sampling of  chambray (and lightweight denim) shirts I ran across, you'll be seeing a couple of these later this week in various looks.  Enjoy!

Happy (fantasy) Weekend!

Gosh, I've never been so happy to see a weekend in all my days.  I swear this week has been one giant festival of suck.  Crankiness has ruled my house, my car decided it doesn't want to start easily (it's going to the shop Monday), hubby working all the time and mommy and toddler are kind of sick of being around each other 24/7 - LOL!  Luckily we are going to be having visitors this weekend and then Mother's Day Out starts up in less than 2 weeks - yay!  We all just need a change of routine and scenery.  If I had my way, I would be camped out in a lovely hotel for a weekend, dressed up and eating out (no cooking or clean up)!  Here's what I would love to wear for fancy eating:

And here's where I would like to stay (it's called "The Nines" and of course it's in Portland, Oregon which would be waaaay out of the way for moi - but again, this is my fantasy).  Isn't it just beautiful?  I adore the colors! (more pics in my post here).
Here's to a better week ahead!  See you all Monday - hopefully with a morning post that actually makes sense - ha!  I'm thinking that next week may be the "Week of Chambray" - check back in Monday and see what I mean...

My Take: Jessica Alba casual plaid

Getting back on track with a "my take" (been a long time, right?).  This time I'm tackling Jessica Alba's cute casual look, featuring a plaid top.
Plaid is yet another happening trend right now, one that I'm not a huge fan of personally, but this has more to do with the fact I started my textile design career designing plaids for residential upholstery.  I kind of had my fill - LOL!  I will say they are super fun to design and play around with color-wise.  I love to see people wear them, but I just can't bring myself to purchase plaid.  I'll get over it someday.  Anyway, back to it.  I did two versions, take your pick!

Uniform Dressing 1:4

First of all, I just want to thank everyone for your kind comments about my wacky week.  Nothing bad is happening, just lots of changes coming and things to prepare for and my fears are bubbling to the surface.  No big deal  :o)  Oh well, moving on to the last week of the first Uniform Dressing (meaning it's the last time you will see these darn pants - LOL!).  This week we are going to dress them up a bit, a little sparkle, a little shine, but still sticking with the premise of an easy to wear top (even if it has sequins) and khakis.  Hope you enjoy!

Okay, next week is a new month and that means a new Uniform Dressing will begin!

Random Tuesday

I swear, I think I've walked through the looking glass into a strange parallel universe.  Lots of weird stuff going on in my life right now - I won't bore you with any details, it's my own drama.  We are also preparing for family coming to visit this weekend (which may just mean a night out for the hubby and I alone, maybe?  It would be the first time we've been out just us two since last November - yeah.  Sad.  If you are lucky enough to live near friends and family who can take your kid when needed, do not take it for granted.)

My post today is a bit of a random one, I'm going to throw out some unrelated outfits that I've put together, but just haven't posted yet for one reason or another.  A couple do continue the sweatshirt vibe from yesterday's post.  Anyway, I'll be back on my game here soon.  Enjoy!
Kind of reminds me of the Chanel Cruise "my take" from a couple of months ago.

Sweatshirt chic, baby!

I absolutely adore that Tory Burch necklace above, but at $350 I'll just enjoy the picture.  Sheesh, Tory you're killing me.

Sweatshirt Monday

I will apologize in advance for this pretty low key post.  I'm living in a house full of sick people, myself included.  I've not gotten a lot of sleep for the past few days, I swear the worst sound is a little one coughing in the middle of the night all congested.  My point is that I just want to curl up in sweats and watch TV all day, but I can't (I just didn't appreciate being able to do that whenever I wanted in the pre-child days).  I decided to put together a couple of outfits featuring a sweatshirt as the top, comfy and chic - yay!

*I wish I could say I looked this chic right now, but honestly I'm in shorts and t-shirt mode *sigh*.
I want that first outfit bad, real bad :o)

Happy weekend and a bit more camo...

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!  Because I can't get enough, here is another look I put together using the LLBean camo tote that I love so.

My Take: Carolina Herrera Resort 2011

Here's a look that I wanted to tackle for a "my take" from Carolina Herrera's Resort collection (it was part of my five favorite looks from the collection).
Lovely!  I like the grey and pink combination, it should seem a bit dated, but comes off as really fresh.  It's just the way it works sometimes.  I decided to tackle it with both dressed up and casual versions (I really dig the casual one, I wanna run out and buy it now!).  First up, the dressed up version:

Next, the casual version:

Uniform Dressing 1:3

Well, I went a little nuts with this one, I really wanted this installment to be a bit more about layers, but it ended up being more about a big trend for fall, military dressing.  We are talking army green, military inspired jackets and camoflage.  I'm not going to lie, I really like camoflage*, but in very small doses - a bag, a shoe, a belt, etc.  The tote bag featured in the middle look is from LLBean and I own it.  I've had it for about 5 years and it's one of my favorite totes.  It's camo, but not "in-your-face" camo, it's actually really chic.  Okay, let's get on with it (I love the "fancy" purse punching up the overall casual look below - the color scheme kind of reminds me of the Burberry "my take" I did a couple of months back):

If you don't like the camo top, then just switch it out for a plain t-shirt.

Next week, the last week for these pants, will be dressy.  Can you dress up khaki's?  Yes you can...

*note about camo, I'm talking traditional, old-school camo.  Not Realtree, please don't wear Realtree unless you are actually trying to camoflage yourself in the forest.  I swear down here in the South people wear Realtree like it's actual street clothing (and Realtree is addressing this with lovely items such as bikinis, ugh).  Please stop, and please stop dressing your babies in it with monograms (usually orange or pink - gah!).  Also, stop using it in your interior design projects.  When we moved into our house one room was decked out in Realtree.  Yeah, seriously.  STOP!  I'll get off my soapbox now :o)
