My Take - Chris Benz Resort 2012

After yesterday's my five post, I almost immediately received a request to take a stab at recreating this look:

Yay!  Love this outfit, and those leopard sneakers - shut the front door!  Here you go!

During my search I ran across these adorable shoes (which would be great with the outfits above or just jeans and a tee) - check 'em out!

Oh, I loved this collection.  He's been hitting it out of the park with consistently fun, wearable, chic and colorful clothes (see my other Chris Benz my fives here, here and here).  Here are my faves, enjoy!

(I want this dress right now!)

RIP - Amy Winehouse

I'm sure you all know that we lost a super talented, yet very troubled young lady over the weekend.  I'm so sad. When "Back To Black" dropped here in 2006 (or was it 2007?) I ran out and bought it - well I ran to iTunes and downloaded it - it's such a great album. If you are only familiar with the song "Rehab", then I beg you to dig a little deeper and discover how truly talented this lady was. My thoughts and prayers are with her family.

NYC Museum Report - Richard Serra Drawings: A Retrospective

Contributor Laura Johnson checking in again with another exhibition report. Laura is a gifted textile designer and colorist with 20 years of experience who lives and works in Manhattan. Because we all can't live in or visit NYC regularly she'll be checking in from time to time to report about exhibits and other interesting tidbits happening there.

There's another show worth visiting right down the hall from the McQueen show at the Met. Richard Serra Drawings: A Retrospective is a wonderful show of large scale drawings by the artist Richard Serra. I have seen his sculptures quite a few times, and it was wonderful to discover that many of his drawings have the same physical impact as his large sculptural works.

Richard Serra is one of the preeminent sculptors of our time. He was born in 1939 and is best know for his large scale metal sculptures. His show at MOMA in 2007 was a huge event (it has been said the museum renovations were done to accommodate this very show).

My Five - Prada Resort 2012

This collection was full of really great prints and a lovely color palette - not to mention the fab bags and non-platform shoes (which looked surprisingly fresh and new).  Here are my picks, enjoy!

The End of an Era...

Source: via Jenny on Pinterest

Well, the shuttle Atlantis landed safely early this morning signaling the end of the shuttle program.  The end of thirty fantastic, productive, humbling, and at times, tragic years of exploration.  What's so great about the shuttle is that it is a reusable vehicle - I mean, how cool is it that it takes off like a rocket but lands like an airplane?

One little tidbit you should know about me is that I'm a total space nerd.  I love NASA, I love space, I love everything to do with space travel and exploration.  As a student at the NCSU College of Textiles I was always trying to figure out a way to see what they were (and still are) working on in the Mars Mission Lab (and you thought us textile people just made underwear and towels).    I've done the pilgrimages to Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama (where it really all started) and Kennedy Space Center where I was even lucky enough to see a shuttle launch 10 years ago.  Seeing that launch was one of the most amazing things I've ever experienced, it's so fast, so bright and so awe inspiring.  And while the future of our space program is a little fuzzy right now, we should never forget that space exploration reminds us to think bigger, aim higher, reach farther and to always look up and imagine the possibilities.

I just love Michael Kors...

In this month's Harper's Bazaar there's a great interview with Michael Kors - I just love this quote from him:

"I think to be empathetic is the greatest gift you can have as a designer. Hopefully, people will look at me and say, 'He really loved women.'"

And that's why I love him, he "gets" it!  You can read the rest of the interview here.

A Bit More Time...

Source: None via Jenny on Pinterest

Wow, y'all I'm sorry I've been out of action for longer than I expected.  I got so sick Wednesday of last week, I mean it hit me hard (of course this came on the heels of the little one being sick too).  After two trips to the doctor turns out I had a very nasty sinus infection.  I'm on antibiotics and still struggling with a nagging cough.  Yesterday afternoon, I finally started feeling like a human being again.  On top of all of this I'm having to learn a new CAD system for work and dealing with temperatures hovering around 100 degrees (yesterday the official high was 104 - ugh, the air was practically liquid).  You can imagine how my brain feels - not good.  So I'll be back Monday ready to roll.  In the meantime I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!  Stay cool!

Happy 4th of July Weekend!

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend and a very happy Independence Day!  I'm going to be taking the next week off from blogging because my family from Chicago is visiting and I'm in the need of some time off - from everything :o)  Have fun, be safe and see you in a week!
