The American Heiress by Daisy Goodwin
This is the story of fabulously wealthy Cora Cash, a 19th century heiress who has been groomed to go to England and marry a cash-strapped aristocrat and in exchange get that coveted title and social status. This was THE thing to do back then for the turbo rich girls and Cora is the richest of rich. She and her mother embark on a trip to England. Quite suddenly she finds herself a Duke. It is a whirlwind romance and they get married. But does Cora know what she's gotten herself into? All the secrets and social traps and players that she may or may not be able to trust? Will she be able to navigate the rough waters or will she give up? This book was a super fast read. Interesting enough to keep you turning the page, however I found, upon finishing, it just wasn't enough. This could have been a great story, but it just was a decent one. I wanted it to be more. Is it worth your time? Yes, just don't expect this to be Downton Abbey in book form, it most certainly is not.
