Porch Lights by Dorothea Benton Frank
I always enjoy a Dorothea Benton Frank novel. She's the best at capturing the spirit of the SC lowcountry. This story focuses on Jackie, a returning vet and nurse, whose husband (a NYC firefighter) who was killed while on the job. She and her young son head down to her Mom's house on Sullivan's Island to get away and regroup. Her still-married-but-living-separately parents are a hoot, the handsome doctor next door and his dogs help her son out mentally, the cast of characters is strong. Is the story predictable? Sure. Is it a fun, easy read? You betcha! So for mindless, beachy, fluffy reading, pick this one up!
