My Favorite Perfumes

I love perfume, I usually have 2-3 in rotation depending on mood/time of year.   I prefer scents that aren't to sweet or flowery.  These are my favorites that I've worn since I started wearing perfume, you know, back when the Earth was cooling.
1. Vera Wang Princess - in current rotation
2.  Viktor & Rolf Spicebomb - yes, it's men's cologne, but it smells divine. In current rotation
3.  Chanel No.19 - the first perfume I ever wore on a regular basis. Wore it for years.
4.  Gucci Rush - Smells yummy, basically wore this throughout my late 20's
5.  Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb - I LOVE this so much - in current rotation
6.  Burberry Brit - Lovely scent (and bottle), another from my 20's
7.  Elizabeth and James Nirvana Black - will be getting this soon, I smelled a sample and I knew immediately this would be my next perfume.

Are any of these your favorites?  Any ones I should try?

My Take - Ruben Toledo Illustration from Nina Garcia's Book "The One Hundred"

Just finished Nina Garcia's "The One Hundred" last week (see review here) which is chock full of gorgeous illustrations by Ruben Toledo.  When I ran across this one, I knew I wanted to recreate it.
Crappy snap I took on my phone, from the book.  Such a chic look, the book full of gems like this!

Here's my recreation (each piece is under $100):

Quick styling tip - when you are wearing a fine gauge sweater/knit and you want to wear a pretty substantial brooch like above, then take a thin round makeup sponge (clean, obviously) and use it to help anchor the pin on the inside of the sweater.  Take the sponge and place it on the inside of the shirt where you want the pin to be and pin it through the shirt/makeup sponge).  That way it won't sag down or pull the sweater too much.

A High End Look For Less!

I saw these shoes while hunting for something else and they stopped me in my tracks.  They look super high end with the details but then I saw they were from Coldwater Creek (?!). There are hidden gems there (trust me).
I'm partial to the top two colors!

Just a quick word about the crazy week we had down here in Georgia. Last Tuesday night and all day Wednesday we had freezing rain and sleet which resulted in an epic ice storm.  The rain/sleet started late Tuesday night and continued all day Wednesday.  We lost our power Wednesday afternoon and it got chilly in the house pretty quickly.  We all ended up piling in bed under piles of blankets, but sleep was tough because all night long all you could hear were the snaps and pops of trees and limbs crashing down. It was a little unnerving.
Scenes from Thursday morning.

We ended up getting a hotel room for Thursday night (sweet, sweet heat) and eventually late Thursday the sun came out and the ice started melting.  We couldn't get another room for Friday night, so we headed home to the powerless house around noon on Friday.  I had to trash everything in the fridge and freezer, then we went to the movies, etc anything to keep warm and not go nuts.  It was tough getting around town because of all the roads being closed due to trees down, etc.

I might have worn this outfit (black yoga pants not pictured) for 24 hours straight - allegedly.

We finally headed home as it was getting dark and hunkered down for yet another night sans heat.  But around 9:30 pm the lights, TV and heat all clicked on!  I might have cried from joy - maybe ;o)  I got my girl tucked into bed and we settled in to watch some TV and things started getting back to "normal".  Until about 10:30.  We started hearing some rumbling sound and then the house started shaking like crazy, more and more and then it stopped.  Did we just have a freaking earthquake?  Yes, yes we did, and it was centered around 20 miles from us.  It was strong enough to wake my girl up, she didn't know what the heck was going on.  The earthquake was sort of like an exclamation point on the end of an insane week.  I've been frantically playing catch up ever since.  Bear with me, posting will be light this week.  But I am keeping up with the Fall 2014 fashion shows, pinning all my favorite looks to my Fall 2014 board.  Whew...

Color Combination - Mint & Grey

Are we still into mint (the color not the flavor - ha)?  I thought I was kind of over it until I saw these jeans.  Now I'm reconsidering my stance.  The color looks especially fresh when combined with a little grey.
1. Topshop / 2. Fossil  / 3. Mavi jeans / 4. Nike

Have a great weekend!!

One of my beauty staples - Nars Schiap

Tragedy struck the house over the weekend.  A beauty tragedy.  I went to paint my toenails with one of my all time favorite nail colors ever.  EVER.  Nars Schiap. And it had dried up to a gloopy, glob of yuck.  Of course I had had it for a long time so it wasn't a total shock, but I was so sad.

What's so special about this Schiap color? It's a lovely, bright, blue-based pink - his homage to the great fashion designer Elsa Schiaparelli's signature color. It's such a happy, perfect pink. Great for these gloomy days of Winter.  And I wanted it on my tootsies NOW!  I immediately went online and placed and order for some (along with Amlactin which is another one of my "must haves" but we'll save that for another post).  It should be here by the end of the week.  Whew, beauty tragedy turned into triumph!
