Happy Weekend!
I'm a lot late with this post, 'cause it's been one of THOSE days. The preschool called at 11am this morning (while I was knee deep cleaning up artwork on the computer) and my girl had gone and gotten a head injury on the playground. A kid pushed her/she fell and had the bad luck to fall right onto a pine cone and cut the back of her little noggin. It's not bad, but there was lots of blood and obviously hurt feelings. So I went and picked her up, and let me tell you she was super whiny and clingy the rest of the day. It's just how it goes. So the house is a mess, I've got a ton of new work projects, grocery shopping to do, a sick hubby, etc, etc. Oh well, it'll all get done when it gets done.
I'll leave you with this image from JAK & JIL. It makes me smile because kids are kids no matter how fancy they are. Sometimes boogers have to be picked even when you are rocking Chanel! (I will note that we are firmly in the middle of this phase right now in the house and it's so gross!)

My Five - Balenciaga Spring 2012
Let me start by saying that I just plain don't "get" Balenciaga some times. I mean, I "get" it in the inspiration/design/story of it all, but as a woman who wants clothes for life, then no I don't "get" it. See, I admire designers that draw from real life or living things more than art and architecture. One can get waaaaay to intellectual for your own good. There has to be some warmth to what is being designed so it doesn't feel so unrelatable or distant. There's no doubt that Nicolas Ghesquiere is an innovator, he's a master with textiles and prints for sure but dude, help a sister out. Balance, Nicolas, you need more balance (see Miucca Prada) - you don't need unflattering hotpants as the bottoms for a majority of the collection, you are better than that! Off my soapbox now, here are some picks from the collection - mostly selected for color and print.

What I Wore Wednesday!
I'm running a little late with the posting today. I'm still trying to play catch up from our long weekend. Like I said last week we were headed to a wedding on Saturday, well, that wedding was in beautiful St. Simons Island, Georgia. I'd never been there before, but I had heard about how beautiful it is. We weren't disappointed. It was positively gorgeous! I'll post some pictures from the island later this week, because today's post is all about outfits!

Here's what I wore to the wedding (me being a genius, forgot to take outfit pictures at the wedding and this is a shot from when I was figuring out what to wear - so excuse the no make up look).

My Five - Prada Spring 2012

As cheesy the 50's car theme may seem on the surface, you gotta tip your hat to her complete commitment to it and the details that went into it (hello shoes with tail lights!). What I'm Loving and Happy (Early) Weekend!
I'm checking out a little early this week, we are headed to a family wedding this weekend and the festivities begin this evening. Is it weird that I haven't been to a wedding since my own almost 7 years ago? I guess at my age most people are either already married or getting married again with little fanfare - who knows. The only issue is, I honestly can say I have nothing appropriate to wear and I can't go buy something, so I will have to use all of my fashion superpowers to conjure up something to patch me through. I'll let you know how it works out!
Meanwhile, I'm going tosteal borrow a feature from Katie over at Fashion's Maven and let you all know what I'm loving right now (here's a link to her What I'm Loving post yesterday). Here are some things I'm digging at the moment (and a book update at the very bottom):
I'm enjoying Pan Am on ABC (Sundays at 10pm) - it's not the best show ever, but it's interesting and entertaining (and of course I love the clothes, see below).
November's InStyle cover with Gwen Stefani looking lovely (check out those gorgeous bracelets)!
Glade's limited edition Cashmere Woods fragrance (I love the candle, above). This is such a warm/smoky Fall scent, a refreshing change from the usual cinnamon/apple/pumpkin/spice scents you see this time of year.
A quick update about Bossypants by Tina Fey that I read a couple of weeks ago - loved it - so funny!
I just finished another very good read on Tuesday night - Loving Frank by Nancy Horan.
It's a novel based on Frank Lloyd Wright's 7 year affair with Mamah Cheney, a married woman in Oak Park. The people and bones of the story are real, but it's a fictionalized account of their time together. It was a hard book to get into, but once it gets going it's totally worth it. It's one of those stories where you are empathetic to Frank and Mamah's situation, but not necessarily sympathetic. It's very complicated and moving - total emotional journey, not light reading, but I totally recommend it!

My Five - Marc by Marc Jacobs Spring 2012
Did someone say that navy and orange might be a color combination to watch? toot toot - there I go tooting my own horn - lol! Just kidding, though this combination came up quite often in this collection it made an appearance along with other bright, happy colors with a sporty slant. By far one of the most wearable, non-age specific Marc collections in recent memory. Here are my picks, enjoy!
